Many of you know him as Amarillo Slim. However, he was born with the legal name of Thomas Austin Preston Junior who won the World Series of Poker in 1972. He was later added to the Hall of Fame in 1992. While many think of him as the best player, those on a professional level will tell you that he wasn’t the best by any means, but he always had a camera on him.

As his name suggest, this man was a true Texan. Here he was raised to look up to other Texas poker heroes such as Johnny Moss and Doyle Brunson. Before poker became the big deal, when he played, he was said to be the best player in the whole world. This was before poker was really popular.

Then pokerstars became the big deal. He was said to be poker’s first celebrity. Because of how much people love his demeanor, he has been a guest star on many popular shows. You might have seen him on one of them. He was on the Late Show. He was on Good Morning America and many other shows as well. He even played in a movie. This movie was California Split which was directed by Robert Altman.

Today, this man is seventy years old. While many think that a man of his age would pack it away and take his earnings while living in peace, this isn’t the case for this man. No sire. You can see him still playing in the World Series of Poker.

He has those games that he loves to play. He actually calls them his specialty as he’s so dang good at them. These include: No Limit Hold’em as well as Pot Limit Omaha.
